Clay Whittington

Clay Whittington is a MMus in choral conducting student at the University of Arizona, studying with Dr. Elizabeth Schauer. He serves as Director of Music Ministries for Immanuel Presbyterian Church while maintaining an active performance calendar with the Gaslight Theatre and the Helios Ensemble.

For nearly 20 years, Clay has served as organist and choirmaster in the Episcopal, United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Reform Judaism traditions. He has served as a cantor and vocalist for the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, the Annual Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real, and the Washington National Cathedral.

Clay’s performance resume includes work with the Carmel Bach Festival (Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA), Carnival Cruise Line (Miami, FL), Pebble Beach Resorts (Pebble Beach, CA), the Thalian Association (Wilmington, NC), Kelly Productions (Monterey, CA), Landau Music (Encinitas, CA), and Stafford Entertainment & Talent (New Bern, NC).

Clay received his Bachelor of Music magna cum laude in Music with a concentration in Sacred Music Vocal from East Carolina University, studying with Prof. John Kramar, Prof. Andrew Scanlon, and Dr. James Franklin. In 2022, he was inducted into the Beta Zeta chapter of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda. He received his Associate in Fine Arts in Music from Lenoir Community College. Clay is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, the American Guild of Organists, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
